Sinopsis
With more than 15 million inhabitants, Cairo is the
biggest metropolis of the Arabic world. Among this population,
more than 500.000 people presently live in The City of the
Dead, a vast arrangement of Islamic cemeteries laid out around
Cairo’s Citadel.
What are the issues faced by the people living in the tombs
- people who were born, got married and will most probably
die inside the cemetery walls? Some important religious and
political questions of our contemporary world are in the
heart of this film.
Namely through some characters: the Sheik of one important
Mosque (whose speeches are as much political as religious),
the person in charge of burials inside the cemetery (who
deals every day with the dead) and some teenagers from the
neighbourhood (ready to give their lives for a cause). |
